Our story

Oranges first, cards later

How Banna Avenue's shopfronts kept turning over while one packing shed stayed almost the same.

A working street

Neighbours came and went; the shed stayed

Banna Avenue runs on the diagonal, one of the long spokes in Walter Burley Griffin's original plan for Griffith, and its shopfronts have turned over every decade or two since the twenties.

A produce and wool agency once stood two doors down; a menswear outfitters became a bank branch, and the bank branch became something else again within a few more years.

Number 27 kept its original trade the longest, grading and packing Riverina citrus long after its neighbours had already changed hands twice.

  • Turnover
